I had a situation that sounds just like this in a Nakamichi amp I had in my old Prelude. Amp would play, then just cut out. Wiring was checked and doublechecked and turned out to be OK. Turned out that there was a solder joint inside the amp that had cracked, causing the amp to go into thermal protection every few minutes and shut itself off. A few winter-summer cycles in New England will do this to electronics sometimes. $100 and a visit to a Nakamichi service center later, all the solder connections in the amp had been touched up and the problem never repeated itself again. I would agree with the advice here about doublechecking all the wiring (may even want to pull the amp out of the car and try running it off of a 12V power supply) but if the wiring is good, this could be an amplifier fault. -John P :I know a question similar to this has been asked before by the kid with the orange Z and dumb wing but its a little different so hear me out please :I have a Kenwood amp that is running 4 kenwood speakers. Hook up with the proper guage wire powering it. I bought a wiring kit from Car Toys. I believe it to be 8 guage wire, too dark to check now. :Well about 2 weeks ago, the amp starting turning on and off repeatly, so i turned the stereo completely off and checked all the wiring. From the power line to the RCA cables to the remote wire to the speaker wires. Even completely un-did the deck and re-did that wiring to make sure the connections were good. :Amp still keeps turning on and off and wont play for more then 5 minutes. It ran fine for over a year and half, and just now started doing this. :Anyone have any ideas - is the amp dead? :Thanks :Chris
